Bed is place for relaxation both mentally and physically. After a long day of struggle and hard work, we need to have a comfortable bed in order to attain a silent and quiet sleep without irritations. Unfortunately, if you are having a squeaking or creaking wooden bed then it may rob your precious night sleep. But wait! Do not worry; this problem can be resolved with some simple techniques. I have suggested these techniques here, have a look!

  • Lay upon the bed in a friendly way and roll upon it so that you may pin point the exact origin of problem. Sometimes the reason is not your bed, rather it is your floor which is un-leveled due to which your bed gets misbalanced. If the reason is actually your bed then find out the place which is creaking. Creaking always happen when two parts get rubbed with each other so you must keenly listen all the joints.
  • Once you have found the place which was the origin o creaking, look upon the joints. If joints are loose then definitely they will be producing creaks. Tight up all the joints through using a screwdriver. If you still feel creak from same place then you may also place extra nails on the joints to make them strongly connected. Sometimes you have to disassemble the bed in order to tighten up all the joints, get prepared for it.
  • You may use WD40 spray to be sprayed over the troubling joints and contact points. But do not over dose the spray because it may cause the swell of wood over time; use it in a sparingly way. Generously spray it and the soak the excess liquid with paper towel or some rag.
  • You may also sprinkle talcum powder in the creaking joints same like WD40. It will lubricant and soften the interface between the two joining points. It will make the rolling of rubbing points upon one another creak free. But it is also a temporary solution. Talcum powder flies away with time. Before sprinkling talcum powder, put a newspaper below the bed because it will create mess.
  • Graphite powder is another solution to be used to avoid creaks. It works same as talcum powder but its plus point over the talcum powder is that it has a proper container and delivery system. You may apply it to the joints in a very controlled manner and reduces mess. It is also a temporary solution. All of the powder solutions are temporary because powder will get out of joints after some time. Get prepared to apply it again and again after short intervals of time.
  • Another alternative is to use waxes. You may use Johnson’s paste wax or bee’s wax in between the points. These waxes will make the creaking points normal for a longer period of time. A negative point of these waxes is that these are too much messy. You have to use a toothpick, chopstick or a pencil to apply it.
  • Test the joint after applying these methods. Look around the whole bed to find out other places and do the same with others. Apply it again and again to a joint if results are not satisfactory.

These are some of the simple ways which will help you in attaining a comfortable and quiet night sleep without irritations.
